A few weeks ago we posted an article about the trend of natural lip looks that have been sweeping the Pinterest boards, the Instagram feeds, and our everyday lives. Now that masks are a necessity, bold lip looks are a bit more hard to come by – no one wants dark lipstick smeared all over their mask, nor do they want to have to constantly re-apply their full lips. Instead, natural looking lip looks are becoming a go-to. People are beginning to discover that you don’t need a blinding lipstick color to make your makeup pop. A full, natural lip enhanced by a gloss or a bit of liner can do just the trick.
Let’s say you want to amp up your day-to-day lip look for your team Zoom calls or virtual happy hours. You don’t want the hassle of applying lipstick or lip liner multiple times a day, and you find that even when you do, your mask smears it everywhere. You’re also a bit wary of injections, but you don’t necessarily want to go completely natural. What to do?? Lip blushing is the perfect middle ground – it’s a semi-permanent method that enhances the shape, color and fullness of your lips while remaining minimally invasive. It’s similar to microblading for your brows in the sense that pigment is deposited through a tattooing method, giving semi-permanent results.
We get a lot of questions about lip blushing, and reasonably so! It may not be as common a procedure as lip injections or microblading, but we think it totally should be. Here are some of the most common questions we get:
First of all, how does it work? Your technician will use a mechanical needle, similar to a tattooing needle, to deposit pigment around your lips. The needle is quickly placed in dots along your skin in succession, creating a flush of pigment. The result looks natural and effortless! And don’t worry, we apply a topical anesthetic to make the procedure as pain-free as possible.
How long does it last? Lip blushing can last up to two to five years! As with most cosmetic procedures, there is no magic number because its longevity is based on how your skin reacts.
How long does it take to heal? After your first appointment, your lip blush should be healed in about a week!
Will it change the shape of my lips? Lip blush can improve the shape of your lips and give them definition. The added color helps them stand out from the rest of your face. By depositing the pigment up to 2mm outside of your natural lip line, you can achieve a fuller, more even mouth shape.
Will it make my lips look bigger? While it won’t actually enhance the size of your lips (that’s lip injections’ job), lip blushing can make them look fuller using the technique mentioned above!
Will I need more than one appointment? After your initial appointment, we’ll want to see you back for a follow up. During the first appointment we will even out the shape of your lips and set the base color. During your follow up we decide just how much you want your lips to pop, and from there the saturation and opacity of the color is built up.
