You’ve exfoliated, you’ve waxed, you’ve tanned, you’ve sunscreen. The list of preparations we make before the summer months is extensive, and we’re adding one more thing to it: teeth whitening. We often neglect dental upkeep (past your regular hygienic regime, of course) but there is no reason to when it’s as easy as it is! Sure, you could whip out some whitening strips every few months, but there is a much simpler way to get your teeth whitened, and that is by a professional.

We offer long-lasting teeth whitening services that are both simpler and better for you than a run-of-the-mill, store-bought kit. So of course, when we find something that allows you to look your best and feel you best, we have to show it some love. Intrigued? Read on.

We use the latest and greatest in teeth whitening technology, which happens to be a laser light made specifically for this purpose. Using the LED light enables us to bring your teeth to their whitest shade, while still looking (and feeling) natural. There is no bleach involved, nor are there other harmful products; everything is plant- and mineral-based, so you can be sure that your teeth will continue to look and feel their healthiest.

The whitening technology is so safe and clean, in fact, that it can be used on dental work such as fillings, crowns and veneers. The only caveat is that crowns and veneers can only be whitened back to their original color. Nonetheless, whitening is a great way to blend any faux teeth you have with your natural ones in the case of discoloration.

So how does the process work? First, we’ll assess where your starting shade is, and what your target shade is using a color grid. Once that’s decided, you’ll begin with a 10 minute remineralizing and desensitizing gel that ensures little to no sensitivity during the whitening process. The gel temporarily blocks nerve endings to eliminate any discomfort you might feel. Next, vitamin E will be applied to the gums to protect the soft tissue from the gel that is used. After applying the whitening gel itself, you’ll sit under the LED light for 20 minutes. Rinse, and repeat the process twice more! Teeth have pores in them (shocker!), so repeating the process three times ensures that the whitening gel is penetrating the deeper layers of your teeth. At the end of all of this, we’ll assess how much your teeth actually lightened according to the color grid.

It’s important to keep in mind that everyone’s teeth have a different natural whitening point. Likewise, everyone’s teeth react differently to the treatment, so not all final products will look the same. While the average client sees a lift of four shades after the first session, genetics and lifestyle play a big role in how your teeth will react.

Once you’ve completed the treatment, there are some important aftercare steps to note. Some are pretty self-explanatory: stay away from dark foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, tomato sauce and wine; opt for lighter color foods like corn, bread, turkey, etc. Mild pain relievers are okay to use if you feel any lasting sensitivity, but should be a second resort to the desensitizing gel we give you (you’re welcome in advance). In addition to this, you should brush your teeth very gently for your first few brushes, using white toothpaste only. Avoid brushing your gums, and don’t use any extra bleaching substances such as whitening or baking soda toothpaste.

Now, for the question we’re sure you’ve all been waiting for: how long does teeth whitening last? This process will keep your pearly whites pearly and white for the next 6-12 months! The exact longevity depends on how well you take care of your teeth, and the external elements that you expose them to. Luckily, you can do yearly touch ups so maintenance is simply a no-brainer! Toss your whitening strips in the trash – it’s time to level your teeth whitening game up.
