We’re rotating through trends faster than ever nowadays, and it can feel like a full time job trying to keep up! It feels like new beauty and style trends are popping up every day, so if you feel like you’re running a marathon trying to stay on top of things, you’re not alone. Luckily, we like to keep a pulse on things so that we can provide you all with the valuable trend insights that you need to feel stylish and confident each season. Read on for some of our favorite beauty and style trends of the season!
Sunscreen as primer… and highlighter. We know we sound like a broken record, but sunscreen is always trending because it is always necessary. But that doesn’t mean your sunscreen has to be, well, boring. Sunscreens such as this one from Soopergoop! act as a base for your makeup, and provide your skin with a glow that rivals that of a highlighter palette! If you’re someone who hates heavy makeup in the summer, we highly suggest trying out the glowy sunscreen/light concealer combo. Your skin will look naturally healthy, sunkissed and glowing (because it will be)! Did someone say easy, breezy, beautiful?
Blush, blush, and more blush. We mentioned this trend in our spring trends roundup, but we’re seeing it come back twofold in the summer. Yes, a bronzy glow is nice to have in the warmer months, but rosy cheeks?? *Chef’s kiss.* There are roughly 8561230 ways to apply blush, all of which will give your face a slightly different shape – you can elongate, round, exaggerate, and the list goes on and on. We found a great guide to different blush techniques, and we honestly can’t pick a favorite!
Faux freckles. Another repeat favorite of ours, faux freckles are a great option for those of us who love the look of a speckled nose, but don’t freckle naturally (or, don’t want to risk the time spent in direct sunlight to get there). You can also accentuate your natural freckles with fake ones – the possibilities are endless here. If you’re a beginner to freckling, check out our post where we break down four popular faux freckle methods.
Beach hats. Or really, hats any time. But not just any hat – baseball caps are always a classic look, but we’ve been seeing lot’s of other cute options recently. Bucket hats are all the rage this summer, and we can’t get enough! Match your bucket hat to your outfit for a chic vibe, or mix and match patterns for an eclectic one. If you want more of a feminine silhouette, try a long brim bucket hat instead. Not into bucket hats at all? That’s okay – cowboy hats are in again! What we’re trying to say is – headwear is your new favorite accessory. Use it to put a fun spin on any casual outfit.
Claw clips. For the days when the heat hits an all-time high, or when your hair just isn’t looking as fabulous as you’d like it to, there are claw clips. This 90s trend started popping back up a couple of years ago, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. No matter what hair length or texture you have, we can almost guarantee you there will be a claw clip that works for it. Wearing your hair up in a clip with a few wispy strands pulled out around your temple gives you an effortlessly messy and windswept look. Or, you can slick your hair back and clip it up for a sleek, classic ‘do. Some of our favorite claw clips are from Nat + Noor. They carry clips in a wide array of shapes, sizes and colors!
Sundresses. Always. We would be remiss to leave out the classic summer staple: sundresses. We don’t feel like we’re exaggerating when we say you can wear a sundress to pretty much any occasion. Toss a pair of sneakers or slides on to make your outfit more casual, or opt for heels or mules for a dressier occasion. For chilly summer nights, throw a blazer or a sweater over top, or wear them on their own to feel the breeze on the hottest of days. Clearly, we’re big fans.
Style is such a personal thing, but that doesn’t mean you need to stay away from trends. There are so many ways to adopt different trends and make them your own so that they fit the aesthetic you’re comfortable with. These trends are only the tip of the iceberg this summer, but they are a great jumping off point for an effortless look that will turn heads wherever you go.
